Business Impact Assessment


Conducting a Business Impact Assessment (BIA) is the first step in developing your companies Business Continuity Plan (BCP).  The BIA takes a detailed look at the functions your business performs and the information systems required to support those functions.


The BIA will


  1. Identify and prioritize your information systems from a business perspective

  2. Identify any manual processes that are in place to mitigate system outages

  3. Determine how long the business can survive without the information system

  4. Determine how much data the business can afford to lose

  5. Estimate the cost of downtime by application


This findings in the BIA can then be used to develop the business case for further BCP/DRP efforts and focus these initiatives on the most critical systems first.
